The White Horse Hotel was built in the mid 19th Century by Lord Churston. Subsequent owners appear to have been offering accommodation to paying guests for over 100 years. The Manor Inn has been the local pub in the Dartside village of Galmpton since the 19th Century but in recent years had become a nationally managed chain pub.
