Staying here was a nightmare experience. We arrived after a chilly afternoon at Bolton Castle; we were chilled to the bone and asked that the advertised heating be turned on in our room. The landlady acted surprised and, apparently reluctantly, agreed. After quite some time we heard the sound of water flowing in the pipes, although we didn't feel any warmth by the time we walked to the pub for dinner. When we got back, the heat had been turned off! We shivered all night, wearing every stitch of clothing we'd brought. The thermometer on my watch read 59 F when we got up. As we walked through the cluttered family quarters for breakfast, we noticed a space heater roaring away in the owners' quarters! Cheap, cheap, cheap. Cleanliness was okay, but there was clutter everywhere outside the actual guest room.
