Located on the outskirts of Kinross, just off the M90, The Muirs Inn is a picturesque listed building dating back to the 1800s. It was originally a small farmhouse where the blacksmith of the area lived and serviced travellers' horses, carts and carriages. At that time the house was just a small, single level cottage of croft type design - this is now the Mash Tun public bar. Next to the cottage was a byre which now houses the Wee Still Lounge. Later, the original building was extended by the addition of another floor above for accommodation along with a single storey extension for use as stables. These in turn became a garage and today the Maltings and Cellar Food Parlour Rooms occupy the space. Around 1900 the property became a small hotel where the owners initially served drink and refreshments through the living room window to mounted horse riders outside. The owners lived on the premises - and this is the case today. The Mash Tun Bar still features the original - and much admired - custom-built gantry constructed by a local craftsman around 1909. Also still in place are the much coveted and now scarce original hand-etched ornamental glass porch windows and bar mirrors. The Wee Still Lounge features its own "wee still" which was used in the now defunct Stronachie Distillery in nearby Milnathort. Later it was used by a local chemist for the distillation of water before being acquired by the Muirs' innkeeper of the day. The extensive menu offers a wide choice of traditional Scottish dishes and pub favourites, with a variety of specials available on any given day. To accompany your meal there's a choice of wines, real ales and spirits, all at very reasonable prices. The Muirs Inn also offers comfortable accommodation in 5 guest bedrooms. Four of them have en suite facilities; the fifth is a family room with its own private bathroom. [More...]
