A charming hotel in a tranquil setting with lake and woodlands. The perfect get away from it all destination with much of historical and cultural interest nearby. Dinner was
excellent and breakfasts are truly 'farmhouse'.

A Huge Disappointment

I shared my tired dank courtyard room in this rather
shabby hotel with spiders and slugs. The setting is
breathtakingly beautiful and the food was very good.
The atmosphere was one of past glory and there was
much emphasis on an article in Country Homes &
Interiors dating back to September 1991. My
well-behaved dog and I received a warm welcome from
Mrs Allison Slater. We went for a walk in the charming
grounds before dinner. Upon my return, as I was
opening my room door, my dog wandered into the
exterior courtyard. A man, whom I later discovered to
be Mr Paul Slater, bellowed at me to keep my dog on a
lead. He was very aggressive and did not introduce
himself or say "please". A few minutes later in the
bar I explained to Mr Slater that his behaviour had
been offensive. Mrs Slater had not explained that dogs
should be kept on leads in the courtyard. In fact a
little earlier, the Slaters' own dog had been running
around the courtyard. He took exception to my comments
and said he was "sick of dogs running round the
hotel". This is a dog-friendly hotel....... After more
rudeness later that evening, I told him that I would
be leaving the hotel next morning and he seemed
unconcerned. I curtailed my holiday.
